Go Skateboard Day Event

Local skateboarders Tony Gonzales, Raul Valdez and I created a “Go Skateboarding Day” event at Oliveira Skate Park on June 21, 2019, in Brownsville, Texas. Go Skateboarding Day is an annual holiday created by the International Association of Skateboard Companies to promote skateboarding on the longest day of the year. I was the event organizer and planner for the event as well as creating the promotional material. Luckily, I had a great team that made it a successful event. We had over 100 skateboarders and 200 spectators turnout.

This is the recap video of the Go Skate Day event. I knew that it would be impossible to run the event and take footage at the same time. I was lucky enough to have met a young and talented filmer, Uriel Gavito to cover the event and he went beyond my expectations with the event recap.

Sponsors are critical in an event like this to help cover the fees and supplies. So what we did was reach out to the skateboard companies and local businesses to support our event and in return, we would give them advertisement on our design collateral. By the time of the event, we received over $4,000 in financial and in-kind sponsors.
